This series is about staging yourself, about creating yourself in the gaze of an “other”.

The paintings seek to question the ability of humans to create their own identity – and which parameters decide who we are. In the presence of the mirror these thoughts are exposed, because our own gaze collides with the (reflected) gaze of our image.

What do we see when we look in the mirror? Is our reflection real or an illusion? The image reflected in a mirror can indicate an ideal copy of reality. When we watch ourselves in a mirror we transform into the “object” of our “subject”, and are conditioned by this. But the image in the mirror is not a copy - it is an image produced by our own presence and the intervention of the mirror - but when we look in the mirror do we see our inner self, or do we identify and create our self after the expectations of our surroundings?
